Fantasy Review: Perilous Keep

The Perious Keep is a stellar return and completion to the duology written by Melion Traverse. It continues themes of relationships, atonement, and self-worth, with twists, turns, and unexpected unicorn, floating-castle fun.

Blurb: An undead necromancer. A curse written in blood.

Sier Bryn hoped her return would provide the chance to rebuild her life, but her new knighthood quickly earns the animosity of her fellow warriors. After learning of a family curse that claims the lives of innocents, Bryn journeys to the Perilous Keep to confront her undead, curse-casting ancestor. But in those ancestral halls, Bryn must pay a terrible price. Can she regain what she lost at the Perilous Keep and prove her worth to the person who doubts it the most: herself?

Like the first one, it's all about relationships and working together to find oneself and save the day. Nothing is as it seems and new--both good or evil--characters enter the scene. There are great losses and obstacles to over come and only together can they all succeed. The same themes of atonement, good versus evil, and self-worth are weaved throughout. I wish I could say more, but this is a story where those twists and turns are spoiler alerts in a review from almost page one.

If you enjoyed Exile, this is a must-read to find out what happens to Bryn and her crew.
